I couldn't stop thinking about donuts last week so I bought a donut making set from Tesco. It was nearly the same price as buying one donut pan.
I think this is meant for 5 years old and their mothers but I didn't care!
They're really cute!
The cake donut recipe on the box is pretty simple and is mixed all in one bowl.
Vanilla Cake Donuts
I halved this to make 24 minis
Ingredients
225g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
175g caster sugar
175ml milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbs vegetable oil
2 large eggs, beaten
Make sure to clean the batter from around the hole before baking
1. Preheat oven to 160 C. Grease donut cups rubbing the whole area . In a large bowl sift flour, baking powder and salt. Mix in the rest of the ingredients until combined.
2. Fill tray cups half full and bake for about 10-12 minutes (a few minutes longer for full size). They're ready when a skewer pressed into the mixture comes out clean.
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
Ingredients
120g unsalted butter melted
175g sugar
1/2 tbs cinnamon
1. Combine cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl, blending well. Brush each donut (including the hole) with melted butter and roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture coating all sides evenly.
They don't taste like a fried donut but I think they're very good with a cup of coffee. I'm going to make a filled one next or one with chocolate glaze and sprinkles!
I have some goodies coming from the US when a friend comes to visit and I'm going to have a go at some yeast based donuts as well.
