I only had time to go out once for lunch this week so I made sure it was a trip worth making. I went to Mrs. Marengo's. It's technically in Soho not The City but I had time to make it there and back in about 55 minutes!
They're a vegetarian take away and cake shop. I'm not a vegetarian but I like vegetables and tofu! I studied their online menu so I knew what I wanted before I got there.
They make a range of different cakes and treats
It was pretty small inside but there was one table to eat in
description from the menu: stir fried vegetables with organic brown rice, cooked in sesame oil, shaoxing rice wine, plum sauce, garlic & ginger
I got one of their gluten free cupcakes to try. I think this was Raspberry & White Chocolate
The stir fry was very good. It was a huge portion. I didn't eat anything else the rest of the day (besides the cupcakes). The sauce was really nice and not too over powering. At £7.00 it's a lot more than I usually spend. The cupcake was very good. I don't think I've ever had a gluten free cupcake before. The icing was smooth and creamy. It tasted like vanilla to me though. The consistency of the cake was different but not in a bad way. It was almost brown in color. I'm not sure what it was made of but it tasted fine and it wasn't too dry or too crumbly. It had white chocolate chips throughout.
I would go to Mrs Marengo's again. If I wasn't in such a rush I would eat in.
Total damage: £8.75 for one lunch on Thursday
