Timing they say is everything. And with Christmas approaching with the speed of an express train, I was delighted to accept the offer to review the “Take-n-play Return from Misty Island” made by Fisher Price. (what a mouthful!)
Thomas has been a fixture in my life for seven years now and it appears I cannot escape him. Both my boys have always shown a great devotion to Thomas whether it is the DVDs or the train sets themselves. And even though Mr. Large professes himself to be “too big” to be interested in Thomas anymore the events of the other day tell a very different story!
The parcel fortuitously arrived on a day when Mr. Large was at home from school sick with Mr. Small. It was intriguing to watch my son who had not been well enough to get off the couch, leap up to help me unwrap the parcel with great enthusiasm.
While Mr Large helped me assemble the island itself Mr Small tore up and down the room playing with the die-cast Thomas engine that accompanies it.
In a nutshell, the compact little pack is Sodor Island and Misty Island, which parents of Thomas fans will know feature on the Thomas and friends DVD.
Mr Large and Mr Small proceeded to spend some very happy time together pushing Thomas through the shake-bridge and tunnel.
After an hour or so of playing very nicely together the set was easy for me to fold up and store away.
Given the current state of my house where it seems I am unpacking and repacking a new room each day as the painters make their way through my house it seemed prudent to store it in the car at the time.
Since then it has been packed and unpacked several times and it has been so lovely to see the two boys playing happily together.
This is definitely going to be a gift for my nephew at Christmas time. While I’d love to re-gift this one unfortunately I can’t see Mr. Small letting it out of his sight any time soon!
