The world is watching you, USA. I have my fingers crossed, and I care deeply about the outcome. Most of you can probably figure out that if I were able to, I'd vote for Obama*. But the most important thing is that whatever your political preference, you use your right to self-determination. I love music, and my political awakening was helped along the way by a little band called Carter USM

This is too 'good' not to share. Conservapedia.I beg you to read of the 'bias' Wikipedia engages in, which includes among other things, the audacity of insisting on English rather than American spellings! The lies and ommissions tainting the entry on abortion in Wikipedia! And my particular favourite, that edits to Wikipedia to include 'facts against the theory of evolution' are censored by

It looks like I was wrong.I am, for once, very happy to be proven wrong. Plus, as an added bonus, there will be no need to subject the interweb to my political opinions.Phew.

BBC Radio 4 is running another of their public service exercises in audience participation: this year listeners are invited to vote for the law they would like to scrap, in the Christmas Repeal Vote.Readers may recall last year's study, in which the law that most people would like to see enacted was one that permitted public flayings and stonings in the street for petty theft, or something. As I

This morning, I had just finished an email to Activist in which (inter alia) I bitched about the fact that I still hadn't received the results of my masters degree. It was a long email, and it took quite some time to write. I was concentrating hard, since Activist's state of mind is fragile due to an ongoing battle with anorexia, and I worry about saying the wrong thing. I didn't notice the

OK, let us commence with the article. Brief history: this article was published on Feb 19th 2005, and is one of those that I have been forced to read for my research. Melanie Phillips writes for the Daily Mail, a paper that under normal circumstances would be deemed of insufficient quality to cleanse my backside. In fact, I have been known to cry out in agony should a copy be placed anywhere

Today has been what is known in the 'trade' as A Bad Day.I was going to try and start coding my articles according to the instructions I have written myself. For the un-initiated, 'coding' involves analysing an article and reducing it to a set of numbers in response to questions that you ask the text. For example:Does the headline of the article contain the words 'human right' or 'human rights'

I did it! I've just got back from a day that felt longer than my last meeting with The Provincials, but I made it, I didn't die, and I think I only made a mild fool of myself, in a sort of court-jester way. While I was ill, I'd built this whole Masters Dissertation Viva experience up into a huge plate of horror with a side of pain, but what I'd forgotten was that my supervisors are genuinely nice

Normally, when I've studied a topic for my class, I think about it, and let it go. But for some reason, my class on cosmopolitanism has stuck in my brain. Maybe that's because it was the last formal class I will ever have to attend (insert big smile here), or maybe because the subject matter was pretty compelling. The class is 'International Justice & Human Rights' and the topic up for discussion
