I love accents. Nothing soothes me more than the rich gravelly Irish tones on my TomTom on my i-phone. When I’m lost travelling somewhere, I get great comfort listening to a smooth creamy male Irish accent tell me to “Take the next right and travel west for 300 metres.” Calms me right down.

My children are the same. They love the crunchy Polish accent of my mother in law and the soft British tones of my dad. And recently when we watched a DVD about a little Mexican man called, aptly enough: “Handy Manny” they were enthralled.

Quite frankly as a DIY do-do I found the premise of the show intriguing. A handyman with tools that were actively involved in the process of fixing things sounded adorable. My kids thought so too. Later I found my daughter Miss Medium inspecting her father’s tool kit only to tell me gravely that “None of them are alive Mummy.” You can imagine my relief.

Given that I have children aged between 2 and 6 (almost 7 as I am reminded on a daily basis) it’s hard to find something we can all watch as a family. Thankfully this sweet little show was a perfect fit for us all. It has lovely messages about friendship, teamwork and unrequited love. Seriously. The last one is true but I think only a grown up would pick that up!

With children who do Nippers down the beach each week they made the connection between the show and the importance of working as a team immediately. Mostly it was lovely to watch something that I didn’t have to answer awkward questions and that kept them engaged for a while.

And in the interests of sharing my new found love of all things Disney I have 2 DVDs to giveaway. Not my “Handy Manny” because, well, he’s mine, and his accent is too cute. But if you’d like to win a DVD copy of “My friends Togger and Pooh” and “Little Einsteins go to America” then leave a comment letting me know what your favourite accent is.

I’ll draw the winner by random integer in 2 days time.
Good luck!
