This brilliant idea is my dear friend Carly's and sprang from a phone call we had. So I like to think I was in the room when she had this flash of inspiration ;)
The idea is that we focus on the positive, that we say something nice about people. And let them know about it too.
At a time when I feel like I have been guilty of being negative and critical, and equally importantly, allowing those who are negative and critical towards me to make me feel badly about myself this is the perfect antidote.
This is part of what she wrote:
"In a world where people curse, get angry at each other, shout abuse and complain we really need to step up and throw some love around.
Spread The Love is all about telling others that they are wonderful. That the job that they are doing matters. That they are appreciated and thought of.
How lovely is it when somebody says something nice about you to your face? Often people only hear negative things rather than the positive."
I spent alot of time thinking about who I'd pick and realised how lucky I am to have so many wonderful people I could say good things about.
My list included everyone who participated in the Bloggers without Make-up initiative and said such lovely things; the cheery people who deliver our groceries and are unfailingly patient with the Offspring's attempts to help carry and unpack; the lovely girls I had a coffee date with yesterday; my children's teachers who are so supportive and helpful; the people who stop by and read my blog take the time to leave comments, or share their thoughts; my twitter mates; my sister in law in Sydney who is always my first phone-call (after Husband) whenever something happens in my life; and I could go on.
Even thinking through that list makes me realise how surrounded by love I actually am.
Today I want to nominate The Sharpest Pencil.
TheSharpestPencil is a new friend and a special one. She is able to view things from a perspective that is discerning and compassionate.
Recently she helped me out with a problem that may have meant nothing to some but was weighing heavily on me. Her words gave me clarity and helped me put it behind me. Thank you TSS.
TSS also makes me feel wittier than I actually am, and in a way, challenges me to be a better writer all the time.
Thank you TSS.
I feel very lucky to know you.
Who would you nominate for Spread the Love?
